In order for the crimeshoe team to provide you with the best possible service it is important that you supply images of the highest quality possible. Use the following tips to ensure that your images are of the best possible quality.
- Firstly ensure that the image quality of your digital camera is set to High/Max. Your camera's user guide should provide you with the relevant instructions for this.
- When taking photographs of a Scene of Crime shoe print be sure to focus on the print itself rather than any scale you may be using. This can result in blurred out of focus images.
- Ensure that the print fills the photograph, providing the largest possible image of the print.
- Use a scale which is approximately the size of the print.
- If necessary position a light source to one side of the print to show ridges and grooves on a print left in mud, snow, sand etc.
- When photographing a print against a dark background increase the exposure time of the cameras shutter speed to prevent underexposure. Conversely you should lower the exposure time of the shutter speed when photographing a print against a light background.
- Take multiple photographs of your suspect print. Remember you are able to upload up to 5 images of a single print to crimeshoe. Photographs taken from a range of angles or showing different levels of detail may enhance our ability to accurately identify a print.
